Making a Large Letter Pattern for Applique

When getting ready to make some Christmas gifts, I needed to make large letter applique.  These letters needed to be larger than my largest frame allowed.
Thanks to a video by Rebecca Kemp Brent  that I found (see below), I was able to turn to my FREE Open Office Word Processor for the pattern.

The following instructions apply to Open Office.
1. Open a new document.  First we need to format the borders of the page and set the page to center the letter.
Format, Page

If you like the Curlz MT font but don't have it on your computer,
you can download it free @ several free sites.
such as My Font Free.

Ready to print.
That's it!

Here is Rebecca's video.  I'm guessing she is using Microsoft Word.

Memory Mon 37 ~ Memory Shells

 @ Cocoa Beach, FL, USA

Mr. G and I are always up for a search.
As I wandered around the beach this winter,
I found some special shells
I've decided to collect for this year.
Looking at these special shells,
hopefully will bring back special memories we are creating this winter.
Can you guess which special shells I'm collecting?
I'll post them later.

Fun or Funny Fri Foto ~ Braun Garden

Cody, Wyoming, USA
Visited September 18, 2016

Admission was $18/per senior which was 36 + tax.
So we didn't go in. According to what we were told we would see, we couldn't justify cost.
These are shots taken through glass of the main foyer.

Thoughtful Thinking Thursday #74 ~ Scissors Seriously

 @ Cocoa Beach, FL, USA

Of all things for a Seamstress/Quilter to find washed up on the beach.
My thought? Where did they originate?  Did they travel down a river to the ocean?  From the US or another country?  Were they dumped with garbage, or was it part of a hurricane disaster?
Think about it?

Update: You MUST read the creative story suggestion by Lea Anne from Podunk Pretties in the comments below.  Hilarious!

Mini Fish Net or Mini Diamond Mesh

Went to the second hand store the other day to search for some yarn to make some birthday gifts.  Some purchases were bags that included unused skeins as well as pieces.
After I finished the birthday gifts, I just messed around with some of the scraps. I was trying to decide on a stitch to use to put several colors together for either a scarf or afghan. I came up with this stitch.  Research tells me it is the Fish Net pattern except uses fewer stitches.
If you like to single crochet and chain stitch then you will like this simple pattern.

The piece of yarn was a soft, fine acrylic.
I used the C needle.

Chain a multiple of 4
I chained 2 rows which does make a nice edge.
Using a size C needle, the second row was easier for me to see.
Single Crochet in the 4th chain
Chain stitch 3
*Single crochet in next fourth stitch
Chain 3
Repeat* to end of chain.

With the Fish Net or Diamond Mesh I found you skip 4 and chain 5.

When you get to the end, chain 5.
Single crochet under the first chain of 3.

Then chain 3 after the single crochet and head to the next space of the chain of 3.

Chain 5 to turn at the end.

It would take a while to make a baby blanket, but I think it would be beautiful and so dainty
with this pattern downsized into this "Mini Fish Net."

Memory Mon 36 ~ An Afternoon of Sewing w/ Memories

When any person wants me to show them how to sew something,
I get very excited!
When a school age child asks to learn or for my help, I really get excited!
Before Christmas, Elaina asked me to help with a T-shirt pillow.
I love it when she comes.
She has some sewing experience and absorbs any new knowledge about sewing that I offer.
I was thrilled to show some new tools to her: cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter.
Of all the T-shirts she chose, was the Western Kentucky University Hilltopper shirt.
Memories of my Alma mater as well as my daughters and soon to be for one of my grand daughters.
Biggest Memory: My Mother LOVED to watch the Toppers play basketball.  She was a Topper fan for sure.
When Elaina finished the pillow,
she pulled out some fabric she found and wanted to make a Christmas Stocking.

I loved spending the extra time with her, because we got to talk about high school of today
and how it's changed from the days I went.
All through the evening, my mind is thinking of how I learned to sew
and my very first sewing lessons.
I shared a few of those with her.
I think it's a few?
