Thoughtful Thursday 166~ Lots of Bobbins

Seems like it takes more bobbins to
make masks than quilt a quilt.
I've almost used 2 large spools of cream colored thread
while also using black.
Lots of thoughts run about in your head while making masks
during this pandemic.
**
Think about it.

Memory Monday 113~ Remembering 2020 Florida Souvenir

Each winter I spend in Florida,
I buy a souvenir
for my sewing room.
This year was the little 6 inch "Row by Row" ruler.
This souvenir came from Titusville, Fl
when we visited Kathy's Quilt Studio
in the old Titusville Mall that is almost empty.
We try to go to a couple of movies there
which used to be 1$ movies and now 5$
which still isn't too bad.

Quilt Shot Block 114~ Variable Star

Variable Star

From:
An old magazine I bought back in 1989!
I just can't part with my old quilting magazines.

I decided to use the newer method to make Flying Geese.

This Variable Star was made from the scraps from the masks I've been making.

What's almost as much fun as sorting buttons by color?
Sorting scraps.
Yes, I think it's fun

Fun Friday ~ Easter Bunny Yard Banner

I took a short break this morning from making face masks
and created an
Easter bunny yard banner.
I pulled out a quilting magazine with a rather detail bunny
to use to make the banner.
It just wasn't working out well,
when I got an email from
The Sewing Garret
in Daytona, Florida.
The email included a schedule for May classes that
included making a pillow with a simple bunny.
So I started sketching.
It turned out to be only 2 pattern pieces,
because I just flipped the ear.
I'd better not share the pattern
since I got the idea from someone else.
Yellow fabric didn't shadow too well.
 Darker pink worked better.
I'll have this roll of green outdoor fabric forever.
The bunny was made from the
mask scrap pile.
Used painters tape to hold the pieces flat.
Just a single stitch around all the edges.

Zig zagged the whites of the eyes.
To finish construction of the banner
I had to turn to my tutorials

From the street
the bunny seems to peak from the bushes.
Happy Easter Everyone!
Have a fun SAFE this weekend!

Quilt Shot ~ Possible Beginnings of 2020 Quilt Challenge?

Our quilt guild's challenge for this year
was emailed to us on March 15 before we left Florida.
I had the whole drive home to think about it.

It read as follows:

All Things 2020
This year’s challenge is very open ended. Put your thinking caps on and come up with a 2020 inspired quilt. Think outside the box, your artists statement will be what tells your story and how your quilt re- lates to 2020.

Ideas to ponder:
 20 x 20 inches in size or number of blocks in your quilt
 20 different blocks or fabrics used in your quilt
 Eyeglasses help provide 2020 vision - Have you seen those cute bespectacled animal quilts?
 2020 the year - build a quilt around something that happened or you’ve seen this year that you want to commemorate.
It could even be a new technique you learned in 2020.
Is/was there such a thing as a pandemic quilt? How will you remember the year 2020?

However, I've been so busy like many quilters
across the nation
 making cloth masks
and hadn't given the challenge much thought.
(The above mask was for my daughter, the nurse. I really wonder if she wanted a reason to secretly check on me? So sweet.)
Then about a week ago when
I was cutting pieces to make masks
and tossed more scraps onto the accumulating scrap pile..........

 AT THAT MOMENT
my light bulb came on!
Do you know the idea I have for my 2020 Challenge Quilt?

Thoughtful Thursday 164~ Sunbonnet Sue Back to Sleep

Back on March 23, 2020
I had started working on in 2016.
The very next day I got a request to make
masks for different places,
family & friends.
As of today I've made
137 masks.
Thinking and hoping people stay home
if possible.
