Fun or Funny Fri Foto ~ Sewing Clothes Again

I used to sew everything I wore and everything my girls wore
and even some things the man of the house wore.
Since 2000 I got very busy and had not made many clothes.
It also would let my mind think too much about how my life had changed so drastically.
I made just a few party dresses, because I couldn't find what I wanted in the store.
When I retired I got involved with making doll clothes and other Christmas projects.
Then my parents passed away and I started making memory quilts.
Things have changed a bit since the local quilt store, Birdsong
asked me 2 months ago to teach others how to sew garments.
It hadn't dawned on me that lots of folks had learned to quilt, but didn't know how to sew clothes!
So the fun of making something for myself  has hit me again
especially after that first top fit and felt so good.
And after checking the prices at the store,
I CAN still make it cheaper!
Now that's FUN for me!
I feel so lucky that Shannon asked me to teach.
The comradery at the store has been an awesome experience.
Come by on Tuesdays for a Sit & Sew and feel the FUN experience.

Thoughtful Thinking Thursday #96~Take a Second Look by Mr. G

On our way to "down home" on the southern side of Danville, KY
is our cheapest place to stop for gas.
Next door someone is always selling something.
Mr. G took these shots.
I "think" they make you take a second look.
How about this "country" end table?

At first I noticed it had a bucket for a lamp,
but take a second look.
Folks raised on a tobacco farm, know what it is.

I took a second look to see a map laying over a flag?
But after taking another second look,
I wanna go back and checkout that bowl of white stoneware.
Is it old?
Think about it.

Wordless Wednesday #222 ~ Mr. G Potted the Deck Plants

Thank-you SO much Mr. G.
I wasn't going to bother this year.
Certainly glad you did.
So far God is doing most of the watering.

Patriotic Fabric Card

I actually made this card for someone for the this past Memorial Holiday. Maybe we don't send greeting cards for those holidays, but I needed to thank someone for flowers they got for the cemetery.
Wouldn't it work for the fourth of July as well?    I think they'd make nice invitation cards as well, or if someone is unfortunate to not be feeling well, a get well card. I think we are about to have a generation that won't know what it's like to send or receive cards in the mail.

Tuesday Teaser
I actually had some fabric from a thrift store find that had some silver sparkle outlined stars.
My cards are made from a half sheet of card stock.
I ripped a sheet of paper into fourths to match a section of the card.

One section of the paper became my template to help me decide how long and large
to cut my scrap pieces of fabric.

When I was satisfied with the design,
I used the template to cut a piece of white fabric.

Hand printed.
You could run through printer using a favorite font.

Info about making an envelope
The envelope can be made from a template using one sheet of paper that works perfectly with this "half page" card. Just do a web search. Some are PDF files. However some are jpeg (picture files) and if so, right click on the picture & download as an image which will print on a full sheet of paper. Use that as a template to trace around, so printer ink doesn't need to be used every time you make an envelope. No resizing should be needed to print. I used the ruler & rotary cutter to cut out 6 at a time.  Use a glue stick to hold.   (info updated 4/21/18)

Used Photoscape for downsizing & watermarking photo

Memory Mon 55 ~My Girl's Memory Patterns

The patterns I used to make my daughter's junior and senior prom dresses.
Their girls, my grand daughters, are now in college.
Notice how much their patterns cost and how much my pattern for prom costs.
only a generation later.
The cost from their generation now hasn't changed that much. Wonder why?
Below view B for one and view C for the other.
Above view E.
And then I made my oldest daughter's wedding dress. I also made the bridal party dresses & mine. It took about a year to make them all. Taking so much time allowed me not to stress out at all. I so enjoyed it. However,  I never wanted to do this as a business.  That would be stressful.
as in view 1.
I added pearls to the lace.
