Getting Our Kicks~ Route 66 Vaca ~ Day 6

Tulsa, OK to Amarillo, TX
Rainy, cold & gloomy most of the day.

Day started out with some sun in Tulsa, OK then,
wasn't the best day of light for taking pictures.

Chandler, OK

Museum of author of Route 66 EZ Guide which we are using.  No one home, or he would have autographed our book.  Chandler, OK

One of my favorite stops of the day was in Arcadia, OK @ Pop's.
You could buy a 6 case of pop for between 10 & 15$.  People were carrying them out like crazy and the place was packed.  Lots of families with children.  Apparently schools were having fall break.

After El Reno, OK, we were on a long concrete section of Rt. 66.
Rainy and a VERY cold, strong wind blowing.

A 3/4 mile bridge of "pony" trusses across the Canadian River.
A roller coaster ride of up and down hills and across small bridges of deep gulley springs.

We got a lot of pictures of the towns before Sayre, just so many to upload.
Unknown location.

Mr. G had a great time taking pics in Shamrock, TX.
He zig-zagged back and forth across the street & turned around many times to take these pictures as I talked on the phone to my daughter back home.
I'm getting envious of Mr. G's photography skills.

And then, arriving into Amarillo on the Interstate that ran beside Rt. 66,
we just couldn't get enough pictures of the sunset.
I had lived in El Paso for a couple of years and did not like the terrain at all.  Love my trees and grass in KY.  However, this sunset made Mr. G fall in love with the terrain.

I shot this one with Mr. G's little Canon

  1. I'm enjoying following you along on your trip on Route 66! Love all the old graphics along the way. That's a lot of different kinds of pop at Mr. Pops. I'm not sure about the Cookie Dough Bitter Soda though.;)
