Getting Our Kicks~ Route 66 Vaca ~ Day 1

We've been looking forward to our Route 66 trip for about 3 years now.  It was to have been my retirement trip. I didn't want to go during the spring due to tornado type weather, and summer is too hot and too busy, usually. So we had decided on a fall trip.

We started to go the fall of 2011, but I was afraid to venture too far away from my very ill Father, and took a closer trip around most of the perimeter of Florida.  Then, we planned to go last fall until I broke my arm!
Managing to find a time when we wouldn't miss football games was lucky.  So, today after church and a quick lunch, we finally got everything loaded up, and

Got [our] motor running,
"HEAD[ED] OUT ON THE HIGHWAY,
 looking for adventure,
in whatever comes our way.

Like a true nature's child
We were born
Born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild
Born to be wild
Steppenwolf- Born to be Wild

I've had my van since November, 1998 and it's been all over the U.S. east of the Mississippi and some of Canada.  Last fall we made our first quick adventure to Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan, and the van has been to Arkansas several years ago.  This will be the first extensive trip across the Mississippi.
This is also the first time I've ever had the passenger seats removed, and WOW did it create a lot of space.  Moving around those seats was really very unnecessary for us.  We also thought a bed just might come in handy if we find ourselves in an area with booked hotels.
Crossed over the Ohio @ Cincy
and enJOYed some beautiful Indiana fall foliage before we stopped for the night.
Hope you were born to be wild and take the ride with us through this blog for the next few days.
