Thoughtful Thur~ Old Snow Waits for New Snow

This was one of my Mother's sayings.

 Through the two weeks
nothing melting because of temps below 28ºF  only.
Several nights were single to negative digits.
The creek has been frozen
those 2 weeks.
That's a rare thing to happen.
So it waited around for Feb. 2.

 Today is Feb 5, 2026.
Nothing has changed
including the high temp at 28ºF.
We might have a dusting (I hope) of snow Fri night.
The temps finally go above freezing next week.
Then, I can finally get out of my drive.

Does old snow wait for new snow?

Sun Best~Provoked Thought: Hebrews 10: 25 ASV

A friend mentioned last week before the big snow/ice storm hit the lower half of the United States,
"What if everyone got ready to meet God with the same urgency they had in preparing for the storm?"

When was the last time you assembled as a group praising God?

Fun Fri~ SIL#2 Bday Card 2026

If memory serves me correctly,
there was an island of trees
across from the boat dock
of their Cabin close to Thousand Islands
on the St. Lawrence River.

Happy birthday to one of the
greatest Son-in-Laws.

Fun Friday~ Tea Wallet

One of the Christmas gifts made for this past year. I was able to buy a variety pack of tea to put into these wallets.
This could also be used to hold a variety of cards.
There are several videos that show how to make these with different closures.

  • Cut 2 pieces of fabric the size you would like for your wallet.
  • Cut 3 pieces of fabric the same width as the fabric above, and the size you'd like pockets to be when you fold them in half.
  • Interface fabric pieces if you like. I decide according to the thickness and body of fabric.
  • Space the pockets apart evenly, to fit your tea packets.

Mark and stitch down the middle

Place backing right side facing pockets.
Stitch around all edges quarter inch
 leaving an opening for turning.
Turn inside out.
Top stitch all edges less than quarter inch
just wide enough to close opening.

Thoughtful Thursday~ A Sympathy Card in Honor of a Veteran

Recently an Elder of our church passed away.
He was also a Veteran of the Viet Nam Days.
A few days later I made a fabric scrap card for his dear wife.

Thoughtful Thurs~ The 2025 Christmas Post Cards

When I first started church when I moved to this town,
I quickly found out the members had a mailbox at church,
and it was tradition for many to trade Christmas cards.
After the first 3 years and getting to know people well,
you know me, I made them.

Here's a list of the past cards and post cards:
2015 Christmas Ornament Card (free embroidery file)
2017 no record
2019 Christmas Postcards- (free embroidery file)
The number increased so I changed to post cards and no envelope.
2020 & 2021 church on internet due to COVID
2022 Christmas Cards Star with Bible verse
2023 Christmas Card (free Dove embroidery file)

This one was a simple raw applique of letters on
scraps of white fabric that I found in an Ohio yard sale.
The stack of white fabrics were all same cuts.
Looked to be factory scraps from cutting a pattern.
They were the right size for post card back ground.
A few were short, so a red triangle corner was added.
See if you can spot them.

After several letters were cut out free handed,
they were stitched to a white fabric.

White fabric then stitched to card stock
with red thread.
Four post cards were cut from one sheet.

The edge stitch food was used to guide
around the card a bit more accurately and quickly.

I was unable to mail any cards this year due to health reasons.
No energy gets nothing done.

I did miraculously work in the sewing room 7 hours that day
completing  45 cards,
3 tea wallets
and
3 gift bags.

 If interested in more cards,
check out the Fabric Card/Tag page.
It includes bookmarks and their printouts too.

Sun Best~Provoked Thought: Matthew 6:34 ESV

Sufficient food for the day,
could simply be something already in your fridge.
This is my "COR" soup.

Fun Fri~ The Hexie Project Reveal: Pillow Covers!

A  couple of years ago, I started a Christmas gift project for my girls and grand daughters of creating seasonal pillow covers after giving them a pillow with a general home decor pillow cover.  That first year was Easter. The second year was Halloween/Fall.
This year was Patriotic which can be for Memorial, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans' Day.
The previous posts that kept readers guessing showed how the covers were made with hand stitched hexies.
Fun Fri~ A Bit of Hexie Hand Sewing & Fun Fri~ Hexie: What is It?
I will admit when I laid out the 3 pieces of approximately 12 inches, it would make one think of place mats.

The final hexie piece measured 14 inches x 12 inches.
Then borders were added to fit a 16 inch pillow
which means borders had to be about 17" unfinished
to allow seams and room to put on pillow.

The envelope pillow cover method was used.

I really enjoyed sitting on my couch
hand stitching these hexies.
I was able to finish hand work on each top in about a week.

btw, these were scraps mostly given to me
by the President of our QOV group.
