Tuesday Tutorial~ Memory Shirt Pillows

A project requested by a friend with grandpa's knit polo shirts.
Using the serger made this a quick, easy project. The "envelope" method was used.

This slotted ruler is 16 inches wide from side to side.
It's not meant to be used as such, but it is used here because the pillow forms were 16x16 inches.
The front piece was cut 16x16.
Seam allowance was not added so the knit piece would fit snug.

The back piece was cut 16 x 22 inches.
The original hem was included in the cutting at the bottom.
The the ruler was slid up to continue to cut the length and other end.

The back piece was cut apart at about the half way point.

One piece included the original hem.
The other piece needed one edge turned under.

The piece with original hemmed was laid right sides together on the front.
Pinned 3 sides.

Then laid the other piece right side facing down
 matching the other end
and overlapping the piece just pinned.

Re-pinned where the pieces overlapped.
Serged all around the piece.
Warning: remove pins to avoid serger blade.

Turned inside out.
Inserted the pillow form
which is rather easy to do with stretchy knit fabrics.

The original hem should end up on the back side of the pillow.

I have a feeling some future Christmas presents are ready?
