I LOVE totally free volunteers.

I remember when as a child

petunias were perennials.

Then came along hybrid petunias.

Usually when petunias volunteer

from red petunias the previous year,

they return as a light purple.

These are the first stripe volunteers I've ever seen.

They just keep getting taller.

I used the NO Tear Paper Piecing Method.

This method enabled me to use the same paper pattern for all 4 blocks.

The pattern was traced onto freezer paper.

 For the "No tear method"

the paper is folded along the line

and stitch just along outside the fold,

NOT through the paper.

I really enjoy the "No Tear Paper Piecing Method."

This pattern challenged me to sew curves.

 The one emblem we happened to see was Mr. G's Marine sign.

 When you get out of the car,

this is what you first see.

 Then the path down to the grave site.

 

The beautiful view from the grave site

includes the Kentucky Capitol building & the Annex behind it,

 and a hint of the Governor's mansion.

 

The incredible thing was we had been experiencing a very hot day, but 

in this one spot the breeze was spectacularly cool.

We didn't see a way to get to it.

Don't know what was engraved on the monuments.

I've posted this great short day road trip before.

Only about an hour from my house.

We also got pictures of the Capitol building and Governor's mansion as well.
