Here's
a way to use up some very small scraps. This project was done free
handed without a pattern. I first started by cutting 2 layers of
batting to the size of kind of wanted, and let that be my foundation.
The following is a photo shot of the process. Enjoy.
After I cut the padding the size I need,
I cut 2 inch squares.
You may want to cut them another size
to fit your padding.
Note: Some of these pieces,
were part of my old, now called vintage calicos.
In the US back then,
we said if a fabric was small print,
usually tiny flowers,
it had to have at least 3 or more colors to be called a
calico fabric.
Then sewing them together in strips.
Freehand cut eyes and nose,
and stitch on before
sewing the back and front
of the hot pad together.
These are stitched by machine.
This loop started 1½ inch wide,
folded half, then fourths.
About 3 inches long.
Top stitched both edges.
The front was place right sides
to the backing and batting behind the backing.
Stitched around 3/8 inch seam
leaving opening
to turn right side out.
Top stitched 1/4 inch all around edge.
Very cute project! You could change the animal simply by changing the ear configuration - I think.
