Fun Friday ~ Snowbird Ride Home

(My old laptop died. Blogging with phone is not easy.)
We left Florida before our time was up.
More than the virus scare,
we were concerned with getting out
before traffic became a nightmare
in the event of a shut down
which we wouldn't have been able to afford.
Also, we had eaten down our food as usual
so as not to carry back.
I had a stocked pantry & freezer at home.
I know folks need food, but found it
a paradox to shut everything down but still crowd markets?
I wanted to stay away.
So we left Florida 3 precious days early.
Only drive through or pick up food in Florida Wed morning when we left.
Southern Georgia was carrying on in restaurants as usually.
We picked up a pizza and tiny buffet dining area was packed!
Annette's in Dillard, Ga was following the protocols extensively. Even wiping down salt shaker in between customer use.
Servers washing & drying with paper towels before coming to our table with anything. Menus wiped down. Cook washed hands after retrieving food from frig or box.
Did all they absolutely could.
We had chosen not to drive I-75
which is our normal routine because we love sightseeing highways and towns.
I had been checking google map last few days
and noticed heavy traffic all day.
Also high number of cases in that metro area.
The route we took up through central Florida
and over Smokies to Gatlinburg.
On Thursday we drove over the mountain.
On Friday a map then located cases along I75.
As you see in picture above,
the hiking area parking lots were packed.
An a acceptable "distance" activity.
The go cart business still going.
Top pic Pigeon Forge
Bottom Gatlinburg
Not judging because we dont know what they needed.
I need a computer to get my taxes done,
but someone else may think I want it for entertainment.
I'm curious to find out if it will become the police job to judge who has a good reason to be going down road.
We stayed in car when possible and paid very close attention to using gas tank and key pad.
I washed my credit card with soap/water.
Mr. G and I will stay away from folks
since we've just traveled miles.

Time to get some serious quilting done.
Mr. G will try to get jobs done around house
without make a run to Lowes or Home Depot which we know isn't easy.

We feel blessed to be safely home
in our safe homes.

I WILL make this a Fun Friday,
because
at this point my life is actually
"back to normal."

  1. My aunt made her way home from Florida on Thursday and of course went straight into isolation. At least she's one of the people who are abiding by the current health authority regulations and not making a stop at the grocery store on the way home (in our area it's rampant - most seniors aren't paying one bit of attention to the guidelines and insist on getting groceries and a drug store stop, not realizing that they're contagious long before they start showing symptoms). I did my last early morning grocery run yesterday, primarily for my elderly friend. No more - from now on we will be ordering online and will either do the drive up/pick up or the home delivery option. We have enough in the house to last us for quite awhile but it's not like that for many people, particularly shut ins. Glad you are home safely - continue to stay safe and stay well.
