 Ask students to set up their assigned machines and thread them. Pre-assessment involves observing student for success. Find out how they solve problems. Provide no help at this point while at the same time assuring them their problems will be solved on another day.  Ask students to put away machines to determine how long this will take in the future.

Fabric characteristics- Activity (assess knowledge) Have students to all sit around large table if possible.

Take sheet labeled A and sheet label B to table.
Each student standing around a table takes 2 samples of fabric
Call out characteristic and student lays their fabric sample in correct pile.

    B. Knit
2. A. Thread dyed
    B. Color stamped
3. A. Ravels Easy
    B. Doesn't ravel easy
4. A. Fabric finish added
    B. Not added
5. A. Corduroy
    B. Not corduroy
6. A. Stretches 3 ways-spandex

    B. Not Wool  -discuss wool from sheep and how thread made

    B. Not heat resistant (Made need to know for Fidget Quilt)

      B. Not flannel (what is difference between flannel and felt? woven)

      B. Not terry cloth (what is purpose of terry cloth and the loopy fabric? more surface area to absorb.)
