Thoughtful Thursday~ More NIKU Blankets

One of our Needlework Club members turned in all these
Crochet Edged Fleece Blankets
for the NIKU unit
at the University of Kentucky Hospital.
They care for over a 100 tiny patients at a time
 in their intensive care unit.
 Incubator covers are needed
 to block out lights.
 NIKU cleans the covers
to meet their standards before use.

 I have to note here,
the UK mascot is
The Wild Cat.
Cute choice of fabric
by this member.

These blankets went through my hands
for me to carry on to
a someone at my church
who works at the UK Hospital
and passes them on to the NIKU
for us.

We hope the little ones that receive these blankets
have a blessed life.

Tues Tutorial~ Great Grands 2025 Bday Card

So it's time for my Great Grand's 4th birthday.
This past year was the year they found out he desperately needed eye glasses. Life is so much better and clear for him. He gave the technician and Doctor a hug after he put on his glasses. I now know why he was giving me a grimace look whenever I got to see him. He wasn't angry, he was just trying to focus in on my face to see what I looked like. Breaks my heart to know he wasn't able to see his world for 3 years. Thank goodness he had a very observant Mom.
He is the cutest in his red glasses. Especially since he smiles more now.
I've been giving him books since before he was born. When I visit, he doesn't bring me a toy, but rather brings me a book to share with him. Now that he has glasses, I think he loves his books even more. When we look back at pictures of him looking at books, we do notice his nose is a couple of inches away from the page.
He lives on a farm, so naturally he wears a farm ball cap, boots and jeans. So when he's not reading, he's out in the barn or field or building something.

Tuesday Tutorial
******************

A penciled sketch on paper the size of the card.

A heat sensitive Frixon pen was used
to copy and sketch on the fabric
with the aid of a light box.

These snipers have always been great
for cutting out small pieces accurately.

Used machine embroidery thread for the cap.

The old tweezers that came with my
old serger
are always the best for picking up and
placing small pieces.
The hands were glued to the backside of
the white piece representing a book.

The background fabric was perfect for this card. I love him so much and wish I could visit him two and half hours away more often.
Happy Birthday, little guy.
