Thoughtful Thurs~ Grand Son-in-Law BDay Card 2024

I realized I had messed up and forgot my
Grand SIL's birthday
when he announced he had a birthday
baby calf surprise.
(Aren't these beautiful cattle?)
So I got busy and made his card.
Glad he gave me the idea.

 Silhouette from Clipartbest.com
Clipart was traced onto freezer paper
and cut out
then ironed onto the black fabric
for easier cutting.
The black fabric was pinned
to the background fabric.
Raw edged appliqued by machine
with 1.5 stitch length.

Then I always greatly appreciate
when they let me know
they got the card.
They did by a text message
and sending me a picture.
That was so thoughtful.

 Happy Birthday!

Mon Memory~ Thank You Vets Yard Flag: Veterans Day 2024

My favorite scrappy fabric way to make backgrounds
for cards and book markers.
Just simple raw edge stitching
laying edges on top of the last
on top of a used fabric softener sheet.
Four fabric softener sheets were put
together for this flag.

White thread just happened to be in the machine,
so that's what I used.

As usual,
the letters are cut
free hand.
I regretfully forgot the word
"Vets"
and didn't catch it
until I took a picture out in the yard.
Again, raw edge applique.
It's never going to be washed.

Place Flag right side to right side of backing.
I used my usual curtain fabric because I have a huge roll
with the lighter wrong side actually becoming the right side.
Above, it was trimmed after pinning down the sides
and bottom.

At the top fold
where the pole arm will slide through
1/2 inch total was double folded
and top stitched.

j

It was stitched down a side,
across the bottom
stopping to leave an opening,
continued across the bottom and
then up the side stopping at the
pole arm opening.

Then the flag was turned
inside out through the opening at the bottom.
Top stitched around the edge
all around below the channel.
Then finally across the fold at the top.

It was at this point I realized I hadn't put the word "Vets".
I think I'll go up to the nest,
and make a piece to
safety pin onto the bottom.

Thank you very much dear Veterans.
I'm so glad we have this day to honor you.
Please believe we really do think of you as our heroes
no matter how you gave us your time.
