Thoughtful Thinking Thursday ~2

Can you find the above picture in the following picture.
I'm thinking about the blue stuff?
blurred because of cropped amount from large picture.

.....and can you find the above picture in the following picture?

We've had lots of snow and rain during the recent weeks to cause the creek to rise and wash away debris from the banks. I see it as a way for the creek to cleanse itself. Do you leave litter to cause our streams and rivers to look like this?

Just think about it..........

Wordless Wednesday #86~ California Drought Continues

Folsom Lake, California  Jan,2014

Last week I posted pictures of the California Drought for my Wordless Wednesday. Mr. G has family that lives in California.  One of the family members responded with some awesome pictures. I asked if I could share them and she approved.
She sent the following comment with her shots:
"These are photos from Folsom Lake last month before we got a little bit of rain and it rose about 10ft. Levels got so low that you could literally walk to what used to be the middle of the lake. A town was exposed that was present prior to the dam being built. More signs of drought are tumbleweeds as far north as Modesto (only 1 hr 15 min south of Sacramento). We can almost walk across the American River across the street from our house."

According to the severe drought area denoted by the Weather Channel, I believe the area to be as big as my entire state of Kentucky!
Do you get some of your food from California?  How is this going to affect YOU!

Update 3 just 3 days after this post: I posted about the 10 year California drought this week and last week on my Wordless Wednesday. You can see from the comments on each WW that some people are concerned.  Today, March 1, 2014 CBS is reporting that Glendora, CA (south of these pictures) got 5 inches of rain yesterday (2 days after this original post).  Looking at the map, a lot of CA got rain yesterday!  Of course because SO much rain is coming at one time, there is flooding because of no vegetation from drought and forest fires.  Nevertheless, is this proof that prayer can be powerful?

Joy's FREE Doll Jumper Pattern

Sometime ago, I was challenged to put an unassembled jumper back together.  I didn't realize how pitifully long ago it was until I looked back in my blog to find the post entitled "Ruby's New Jumper." It was March, 2012! Right at 2 years ago!
That post showed you how I used the pieces to make the pattern.  Primarily, I tried to demonstrate how to do flat construction, and replace the neck binding with facing which is much easier for my fingers to handle.
At the end of that post, you might note that I said I'd try to make a dress. No, haven't done that yet, but I have included a pattern in this post for you.

Below you will see how I did divide the back into 2 pieces.  That's what happens when you don't have enough fabric.  Redesign!

First I did some assembly line sewing.

Here is another version.  This pieces was made according to the pattern.  The back is one solid piece.
This jumper actually fit the American Girl doll, but looked dorky.
Just not her style.  The yoke line hit in the wrong place.

So here is your pattern if you have a doll like this one.
enJOY!

Quilt Shot Block #19~ Waste Not

Found in the following book
While this author suggests you use your scraps to "Waste Not,"
I had difficulty with the small slender triangle.
Here's my method of construction that unfortunately does "waste a bit."
For 12 inch square
Cut 4 right triangles
Lucky me had a 6 in + 1/4 inch seams triangle ruler.

Place a mark 2 ¼" as shown.
Press along the line shown by the ruler.
Placing right sides together, stitch along the folded line.
Press and cut.

These corners will end up on the edge of the block, but when putting all the blocks together, it will be important these 1/4 inch corners be there.
Make 4 to complete the block.
(I like the black peaking through the pieces. Might look good with black strips?)
How about not wasting the white pieces, and use them in some strip quilting to waste not?
