Cata Claus

Mr. G is a sports fanatic & so of course for Christmas he wanted a Santa Suit in his team's big Blue color.  Not wanting to put a lot of money into it because fabric stores have sky rocketed prices since Walmart stopped stocking, I picked up a $4 shirt at the local Salvation Army store and a cheap fleece blanket on black Friday.  I had a small piece of white fleece and did have to purchase some more at the fabric store but thank goodness I found some on the scrap table and didn't have to pay the $13/yd for it.  I had an old belt and wrapped the buckle in silver wrapping ribbon.  We already had the hat we'd gotten at a ball game a few years back.  He wore it to surprise his grand kids Christmas night and called himself "Cata Claus." If you know much about basketball, after you look at the pictures below, you'll know why he chose that name.

The elastic was saved and used in the pants.

Used a pair of lounging pants as a pattern to follow to make the pants.  Now do you know why he is Cata Claus?

Elf @ Work Coat 2

This coat is a Butterick P287, size 7.  I left out the pleats so I could fit the pattern on the blanket I had.

Hem of sleeves were cut at edge of blanket.
Details same as Size 4 made earlier- different buttons.

One blanket per coat.  I did have to cut a facing for one coat from the other's blanket.  I bought them on black Friday super cheap.  These are thinner fabric than most.

No Calorie Gingerbread Man

I made a bunch of these Gingerbread men a few years back and put them on all the gifts I gave.  Today, I decided to make some more.  A day of trial and error just to make one like my old model.  Well, I actually made about a dozen.
These patterns are at least 30 years old!  They sure were worth their cost for they have made many projects.

The old model and pattern.

Decided to start pinning after the first one was off.

Also, thought I'd try zig zagging before I cut the pattern out.

.... and finally the one I didn't cut out exactly because I didn't pin, just free handed.

So the zig zagging hid the uneven edges.  Can't tell the difference.
I believe zig zagging before cutting looked more like the model and laid the best.

Then I realized the model was thicker because it had a middle layer.
Finally, a good use for used dryer sheets! Perfect.
Since the markings were going to show, I decided on brown, like baked edges.

I say that some day, I'll get a new machine, but I love this one.  Would like to have a no hands pressure foot though.
For the white frosting outline, I used design #70, which is one stitch forward and 1/2 stitch back @ no width, middle position for length.  To pivot the needle, wait until the needle takes the 1/2 step back.
Design #38, hearts, for the eyes and design #95 of 3 snowflakes for the buttons. Mouth corners are zero length medium zig zag.

Four of these smiley faces are hanging in the kitchen during the holidays now, providing no calories.
