Mon Memory 142~ 2023 Memorial Day

Memorial Day began having meaning to me after my Father past away.
It has even MORE meaning to me now.
He was definitely a Patriot and absolutely loved his God, Family and Country.

When I was little, it was a day we set tobacco and
on Sunday would decorate graves of the family.

When I was a young Mother,
it was the first weekend to go camping.

Now, it's a day to remember and thank
ALL those that have fought for our country
and are no longer with us.

 Thank you

Quilt Shot Block 156~ 2023 Memorial Day Yard Flag

No this is not a quilt square.
However, quilt block ideas were used.
The heart was used from an block I saw made on You-Tube.
It was called Patriotic Heart that I used to make another yard flag.

I didn't want to wait until Tuesday Tutorial to share
which would have been after Memorial Day.

The last flag I had made was for Veterans Day, Nov. 2021.
Then G and I got the Delta strain of COVID,
I never felt like or had the energy to do anything last year.
Finally, that flag got so faded,
I was ashamed to leave it in the yard.
Recently, I pulled out my red, white, blue scrap bags
and got a new one made.

Still free cutting the same style letters
I used to make for my elementary class bulletin board.
Made 2 sets of the alphabet and off set the back one for background effect.

If you look close a heart was machine stitch free hand.
Folksy style.

 To make the flag,
I had to go back myself to a past post.
Dimensions and directions for making the flag can be found at:

Mr. G's Knock Out Rose he planted for me is shown here.
The -30F freeze we had at Christmas killed several of the branches.
Once I trimmed the dead pieces,
it put out several blooms for each trimming.
In the background here,
there are more pots, pieces and plants that he got for me.
Some things did survive.
I don't know why I didn't think to move the things inside or in the garage?
He did so much,
there is still a lot around to remind me of him.
Lots of memories that I love.
USA Memorial Day is very special to me
as I remember him and my Dad
for serving our country.

Thoughtful Thurs 193~ A Thoughtful Place for Mother's Day Dinner

This is where one of my daughter and her hubby along with my grand daughter and her hubby took my daughter's MIL and me to dinner for Mother's day.
It's was once a garden green house in downtown Lexington that someone turned into a restaurant called "Kentucky Native."  What an experience. It's all out doors and open air. What buildings there are for the plant work and cooking, they have no windows. So it's only open in the warm seasons.

As I stood in line to place my order and while sitting at my table I took pictures all around.

I was astounded with the beauty and oddity of this plant found at a place called "Kentucky Native" while this plant is NOT native to Kentucky.

It was only labeled "Resident" which I'm sure is not it's name.

After the meal, we took a walk through the green houses.
I think my daughter puts a lot of thought into the places we visit.
She's the one that came up with the idea to go to the Kentucky Castle on a warm day in February for a tour which I have not shared.

Both of my daughter's are super thoughtful.
I'm a lucky Mom.

Did you know Mom upside down is
WOW!
