Dad's Barn
8x9 inches
8x9 inches
A "design as you go block" improv by Your's Truly, Joy
for another memory quilt of Mother & Dad's clothing
"Showing Memories of Our Home Life"
First a single 3D Flying Geese was made.
Then like the Wonky Log Cabin process
pieces were added.
I love just adding on without having to measure.
Makes me feel creative.
Like an artist throwing the paint brush around!
The brown strip was a leftover from a previous memory quilt.
I thought the results of Dad's hard work sweat stained area of the fabric
fit right in to show the usual dirt/gravel area
that always led up to the barns.
More strips will be added later to make a 12x12 inch square.

I love the sentiments behind what you're doing. Definitely a throwback to the way our ancestors made quilts out of what they had.
ReplyDeleteI do get a lot more gratification out of making quilts the original way than cutting up brand new yardage of fabric. Thank you.
DeleteYour barn blocks look great, Joy.
ReplyDeleteI love this. Not sure I have any old shirts at the moment, but could easily make it out of my stash.
