Using a Multi-sized Garment Pattern

Many garment patterns come in several sizes on one sheet.  Many folks just cut out their own size.  For me, I never know when I may wish I had the other sizes for someone else or because of a successful diet, or not.  So I try to preserve each size.  

Here is one technique used with this pattern.

Several years ago, these tracing wheels were used with carbon paper to mark darts.

I found this tracing wheel in a box of old sewing tools at a yard sale.

It has a wooden handle which is removable making me wonder

 if there was a set of interchangeable tools?

Lay the pattern over tissue paper i.e. that is used in gift boxes.

Pin the pattern to the tissue paper to prevent shifting of papers.

Trace the needed pattern with the tracing wheel.

Last, cut out the pattern along the traced lines.

With the largest pattern pieces,

the pattern is folded along the straight size line needed.

On curves such as arm and neck, the pattern is clipped frequently to the size line

then folded along the curved size line.

The folds are easier to deal with if they are folded under the pattern then pinned.

For this dress, the largest size was chosen and some even added under the arm.
