Around here in all the years I've lived here, I haven't heard of one biting a person. However, I don't want to be around a horse or cow when they are being aggravated by a horse fly and definitely not when they do bite or land on them.
I've been bitten once and that was enough for me. We get what we call greenhead flies at our condo pool espcially when the wind in out of the west. They are terrible too. I love the thread "experiment".
I don't think I would have been taking pictures of that horsefly - at least not without a swat in my hand. Those things are viscious!
