Tues Tutorial~ Knitted Diagonal Dish Cloth

When you want a quick project to make during a 90 minute TV show, try this. It is a dish cloth made with cotton yarn. Knitted on the diagonal using increase & and decrease stitches. Interesting watching it grow on the diagonal to the center as big as you like then decreasing back down.

Tuesday Tutorial
******************

The directions were passed on to me from our Needlework group leader. She made a picture of the well worn directions and sent it along with a picture of a dish cloth she had made. Always like to see what the end result is supposed to look like.

The directions (in case you can't see them) say:
 Materials:
1 Ball of Sugar N Cream (Brand name of a cotton yarn) Must use cotton
Size 9 knitting needle (I actually used 5)

Abbreviations:
K=knit
YO= yarn over
TOG= knit together  (I add that info)

Directions:
Cast on 4 stitches

Row 1: K3, YO, K1
Row 2: K3, YO, K to end of row
Repeat Row 2 until 50 stitches on the needle. (32 for small, or 42)
Row 3: K2, K2 TOG, YO, K2 TOG, K to end of row
Repeat Row 3 until 5 stitches on the needle
Bind off

Attach ribbon (I didn't) weaving around the cloth (In the holes) and tie in a bow or knot.

This is the picture of my friend's dish cloth.

  1. Seeing this brought back memories because I made dozens of these back in the day. Haven't made any recently though, so perhaps I will.

  2. I love an old handed down pattern like this, sometimes the classic are the best. This will be a feature over at Handmade Monday next week.
