Gone Fishing Birthday Card

This year I've made the birthday cards for the special people in my life.  My grandson is certainly on that list.  I think one of his goals in life is to catch a bigger fish than his Uncle Dan.  So here is his birthday card made from card stock, fabric and thread.

*A Tutorial Tuesday*

First open a word processing document.  I use Open Office which can be download for free.  Set up the document for 2 columns.

Choose a large, fat font that will be easy to stitch over and position with the clipart in mind.

Find a clip art online and copy it.  Right click on the clipart to get the drop down menu.
 Paste
 Reposition
 Print

Take a half sheet of card stock and fold in half.
Position clip art and letters on the backside of the front.

The yellow piece came from my Dad's shirt.
I added a straight piece of fabric stitched through the center and onto make the line and hook.

Cover the back of the front of the card with cloth to cover stitches.

Use an edge stitching foot to stitch the fabric around the edges.
 Trim off excess fabric.
Happy Birthday!

Info about making an envelope
The envelope can be made from a template using one sheet of paper that works perfectly with this "half page" card. Just do a web search. Some are PDF files. However some are jpeg (picture files) and if so, right click on the picture & download as an image which will print on a full sheet of paper. Use that as a template to trace around, so printer ink doesn't need to be used every time you make an envelope. No resizing should be needed to print. I used the ruler & rotary cutter to cut out 6 at a time.  Use a glue stick to hold.   (info updated 4/21/18)
