Quilt Shot Block #78 ~ Colorado

Colorado
12½ inch block
In honor of my newly found cousin, Dawn, in Georgetown, Colorado
(Thank-you Facebook)
  ***************************************
Elkhorn Creek States BOM (1 of 4 for August)
The "Thimble" fabric is required in every block of the month for this challenge.
****************************************

This was an easy block made of only half square triangles (HSTs).
Our pattern called for the corners to be of the dark color, but
after some research I found sometimes this block
used a different piece for the corners.
So, I decided to use the 8HST method
to make my HST.
This gave me 2 extra thimble HSTs.
I layered the 4 fabrics I needed to cut
7 3/4 inch squares to make eight 3½ inch squares.
2 red, 1 navy blue and 1 thimble square.
For the 8 HST method, draw both diagonal lines.
Sew 1/4 inch away from each line on both sides of the line.
Above, you can see me doing" assembly line" sewing.
To cut, first align the ruler at the intersection of both seam lines,
and align the ruler with the edge of the square.
Cut the diagonal seams last on the drawn lines leaving a 1/4 inch seam for all 8 HSTs.
The clip board holding the pattern sheet comes in handy.

Using Photoshop Combine tool, here's a look at possible quilt layouts using this block.
