Painting Easel Carrying Bag

This bag was made to carry a small painting easel.  Of course it could hold anything else that fits.
It's just simple with no pockets.  You could add pockets if needed.  Just add them while the fabric is still flat before you stitch the one side seam.

*A Tutorial Tuesday*

 Decide casing measurement and mark.
 Mark same on other side.
Fold over 1/4 inch from marking and stitch.
This will be finished the ends of the casing.
Stitch along edge of casing.
above This is what it looks like on the right side.

Fold casing back along line just stitched.
Serge over the folded edge.

above This is what it looks like on the wrong side after its stitch and unfolded.
These pictures show the right sides after the fold has been serged.
See why the 1/4 inch was turned under and stitched for the ends of the casing first?

Cut a 2 ½ inch strip with desired length for shoulder strap.

Sew across 1 end (for turning) and down side.
Turn right side out and snip of the end that was sewn.

Triple stitch was used above.  Strong and stretchy.

Serge side seam and across bottom

On the bottom, box the corners about 2 inches in.
Thread a shoe string through the casing for a tie.
I used the box for the measurements of the bag and thought I would use it inside.
Later I found out the easel, when assembled wouldn't fit back in the box.

  1. Useful bag! I like that the fabric is dark enough so grass stains won't show.
Thank you for participating to my Fabric, Thread and Yarn link party. Have a good weekend!
