Quilt Block Tip: Sewing Bias Line of a Square

In the quilt I made from 7 man's shirts last year, one of the blocks was the snowball block.
Squares were sewn to each corner along the diagonal down the middle.
I didn't buy a fancy tool to guide me down that line.

I simply used my water soluble pin & a ruler and drew a line on the machine continued from the mid-line under the pressure foot.
Needle was dropped exactly in the corner of the square.
The other opposite end of the square was guided along the line.
It was easy to assembly line work the blocks.
The water soluble line only had to be redrawn once.
I have used tape before to mark the line, but have scratch my machine's surface while removing the gum left from the tape.  The water soluble pin worked just fine for me.

  5. Clever, clever, clever, Joy!!! And so simple. This could also be used when joining fabric to make bias tape. Maybe the manufacturers could put a permanent line when they make the machines.
