Lily Dress

Our family is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the newest member of the family any minute now, because she was supposed to have arrived yesterday!  To celebrate, I made the big sister, Lily, my Grand Niece, a new dress.  I hope she likes it.

Threading My Way_Featured

Her Mommy had posted pictures of different dresses she was hoping to win such as the following dress from Sweet Honey which can be found on etsy right now. (just trying to give credit for the beautiful creative idea at Sweet Honey.  I see such talent in combining beautiful patterns of fabric.)
I had a scraps of fabric from the Mother Lode of fabric from my Special Friend.
Looking through my large stash of patterns, I decided to use McCalls 9203.
One view has buttons in the center of the front bodice, while the other has rows of ribbons.
I decided to make a pleat with a piece of matching fabric to look like an overlay.
I rather thought the back should have been the front.

I despise doing plackets.  Sometimes they work good on knits, most of the time they don't work right on cottons.
When using a variety of fabrics in a garment, I don't match button styles and sometimes not even colors. This is a great way to use my button stash collected over the years from used clothing.  Am I the only person that has a fascination for buttons?

So Lily, Congratulations on a new baby sister, and I hope you like your new dress?
Your Mommy said you wore a size 3T.  This dress is long but I sure don't remember 3T being this big.  Lily, you are growing too fast!
