Fun Fri~ A Bit of Hexie Hand Sewing

 

Last week I shared A Snowy Day of Cutting Hexies.

 So here is the start of hand sewing those hexies.

 

 

More about the Homemade Thumb cushion later.

 

I have no clue why I enjoy sewing these.

I do know I don't care for EPP,

because I don't want to mess with

 cutting the templates,

gluing .

doing what seems like 300 overcast stitches for each seam

then removing templates. 

 instead

I cut

 sew about 16 stitches per 2 inch seam

(I do pin to hold end points) 

press

done.

 

 

Can you guess what I'm making?

No it's not another quilt.

Already have 2 of those going.

I think their quilting idea is stalling me.

Fun Fri~ Snowy Day Hexie Cutting Time

 

I was given this silicone hot pad one Christmas. 

I actually tried to use it as a pad for my mini iron in the sewing room.

It wasn't thick enough to protect the table surface from heat.

However, when I flipped it over to a smooth surface,

it was perfect for gripping fabric so I could trace around

the hexie template.  

while it also held tight to the desktop.

I got about 100 cut the first day,

and about 60 on the second day.

I need about 200 to complete the project.

 This Santa Gift will be hand stitched for the most part.
