 A few blocks made from scraps of making 665 masks.

Fun Friday ~ Fast Simple 9 Patch Antique Fabric Pillow Cover

I've had these scraps which in most cases a 1 inch square can't even be cut from them,

or they are t-shirt knit scraps

ready to go to be put in a fabric case for bedding for the humane society.

Then I decided why not for now make a pillow covering

for this chair that sits at the front door entrance?

These pieces came out of a box of fabrics given to me

that formerly belonged to a long time sewer.

but I do feel like the 2 prints on the right are antique.

To me, the definition of antique is what would have been

"vintage" when I was in my 30s and 40s.

The texture, printing, weave and stains of the pieces on the right give me that feeling.

The large flower print may also be such.

I thought it was formerly a curtain but it still had some selvage.

 I decided I just make a simple 12½ Nine Patch block

to eventually make a 15 inch pillow cover.

 Now to make the back.

Two pieces of yellow fabric were left.

Decided to sew them as the marks show.

 But it turned out like a kite, not a square!

So grabbed another yellow piece which was actually big enough to make 

an envelope back.

BUT, you see the problem I created?

 One was turned the wrong way.

The raw seam shows.

 This is exactly how much of this fabric I had left.

Did it take longer to do this than rip everything out?

I did open up the seam to tuck in the end of the fabric strip.

 Then I added 3 inch strips to complete the 15 inch measurement.

Fun!

Frozen Zucchini

For years I have frozen individual bell peppers whole .

The other day, I knew the days were limited for a zucchini I had,

and I wondered if I could freeze it whole.

I cleaned it and after it was totally dry,

popped it in a zip bag and tucked it in the freezer.

A couple weeks later,

I pulled it out of the freezer.

Ran it under some warm, and

sliced it while still frozen as you see above.

Put them in the skillet with a pork chop already cooking.

Turned out great.

So this means I can get zucchini in season and freeze a few,

and cut up like I want when I'm ready to eat them.

I remember the days I used to freeze them and always thought I had to cut them up.

Why did I think that?

I was so hungry, I forgot to get a picture after they browned up.

 

Monday Memory 117 ~ Offutt - Cole Tavern

Midway between Midway and Versailles (pronounced as in a boat sail ), KY, USA

Thinking if someone from the future had put the pizza sign there

back in the 1780s.

This was a drive by shot from the car.

Need to go back some day, and

get a shot of "See over."

I don't want to be political, but I've got to say

I'm very sadden to see landmarks of our history being destroyed today.

Note to me for cutting pieces.

There are several sizes.

I chose to make the 6 inch square which makes 3½ inch house blocks.

Was going to just make 1 even though the block is made of 4,

but I decided to make all 4 and I can decide to combine 

or spread out over the quilt.

Notice in bottom left how the design perfectly matched up in one spot.

I could have worked all day to make that happen if it was an intention.

The good thing about making these small 3½ inch blocks is it can use tiny scraps.

 

Fun Friday ~ Sorting Masks Scraps

 After using a LOT of time sorting through a large clear plastic bag full of these scraps

to find the pieces for a quilt block,

I decided I could save a lot of future time to sort these pieces.

I knew there were a lot of common shapes and wanted to group them together.

It took me about 2 hours to sort them out. 

So did I really save time?

Maybe, because Saturday I was actually able to make 3 different blocks

when normally I only get one done in an afternoon.

Regardless, I do enjoy sorting fabrics and button.
