Wordless Wednesday #218 ~ Northern Russell Cave

Couple of weeks ago, we discovered the northern end of the Russell Cave Road.
A bit more rustic but still representative of the beautiful bluegrass area of Kentucky
including the historic stone fences.
Yours truly driving while Mr. G took the drive by shots.

We found this road because we took a detour to avoid sitting in traffic.
Always looking for a travel adventure, even locally.

Another Scrap Happy Bday Card

A calming activity for me is using the scrap pile to make personal greeting cards.  My youngest daughter has expressed her appreciation for these, therefore she joyfully gets one on her birthday!

Tuesday Tutorial

Before cutting letters, the fabric is backed with lightweight iron on interfacing. Letters are cut free handed.  Lots of experience from cutting letters for bulletin boards during classroom teacher days.

Snippers make letter cutting easy for arthritis hands.
Momma N's pinking sheers add a nice edge.
The old serger tweasers help my hands place the letters.
One line of stitching across the letters.
Using tag board doesn't allow for a lot of stitching.  Otherwise, a hole in the paper is created and the thread has nothing to hold onto.

Balloons are free cut.  No pattern needed for this off oval shape.  Simple stitch lines for balloon strings & one line through all balloons to hold in place.

To be a bit more whimsical, let the threads hang.  The intent is to fold them inside the card so when it is opens they fall out.
A cover is used on the inside back of the front to hide the stitching.  The stitching also holds the cover fabrics as well. A tad of glue is used to hold the pieces in place but not in stitching line.  This is so the pieces won't shift while being sewn.

I don't worry about straight edge cutting, these are not meant to be perfect looking but maybe folksy?
Hoping this project inspires you to dig into your fabric scrap pile.

Info about making an envelope
The envelope can be made from a template using one sheet of paper that works perfectly with this "half page" card. Just do a web search. Some are PDF files. However some are jpeg (picture files) and if so, right click on the picture & download as an image which will print on a full sheet of paper. Use that as a template to trace around, so printer ink doesn't need to be used every time you make an envelope. No resizing should be needed to print. I used the ruler & rotary cutter to cut out 6 at a time.  Use a glue stick to hold.   (info updated 4/21/18)

Memory Mon 51 ~ Old Glory Pillow Memory

Having memories of the Old Glory Block pillow I made for Memorial Weekend 4 years ago.
A lot of people have pinned this pattern.
The pattern came from Debby Kratovil's calendar.

Thank-you to all the Veterans, including my Dad, Mr. G, my Son in Law, & Step Grand Son
and those now serving that make this day possible.
Considering how some are living in their countries right now, I feel very fortunate to live in the USA.
