Thoughtful Thinking Thursday #33 ~ How Far Can You See on a Clear Day?

This picture was shot on the beach at the southern end of Cocoa Beach, FL just before going into Patrick Air Force Base.  Looks to be a light house on the right on the horizon.  I'm wondering if that is the light house on Ponce Inlet? Can it be seen over the land of Titusville and Port Canaveral?  Or is there a light house on Port Canaveral somewhere?  By the looks of our shots from last year, the Ponce Inlet Light House is painted red.

What are the dark spots next to the light house and on the left of the boat?  Clouds?
Thinking?

  1. Amazing picture! I think the dark spots are part of the "mirage" (an optical phenomenon) created by the differences in temperature in the air. A bit like pools of water you seen on roads on a hot day, when there is no water on the road! So in actual fact the dark spots could be the (dark blue) sea reflected in pockets of air. But don't quote me on this!

    1. Thanks so much for the info. I've never heard of that phenomenon! Makes a lot of sense.
